Travel Training

Tri-Valley Transportation introduced travel training into their family of programs in May of 2009 with a New Freedom Grant provided by the Federal Government. Travel training is not a new practice or concept.  Travel training has actually been around for the past 30 years. Other cities and areas in the United States have used the travel training method to grow rider awareness, independence, ridership and confidence of new and current riders. It started in large urban areas to increase understanding of large city transportation schedules. Travel training has now become an important part our rural transportation. Without travel training, some will never feel comfortable enough to ride or have the opportunity to ride public transportation.

Our goal with the travel training program is to educate individuals on transportation options located in the community through one-on-one or a group training session. Through travel training, we provide individuals with tools necessary to confidently book a trip and receive a ride with public transportation or rural transportation collaborative (RTC).  This service is free for ANYONE!

An assessment process is used to enhance individuals understanding of Tri-Valley Transportation program and is provided through two different options. The first option is done by the person or group calling our office and telling us what their traveling plans are with our public transportation or RTC program.  We then will come to you, only on your request, to do an informational presentation on our public transportation and RTC services.  The second option includes a complete general assessment process for an individual. The process includes background questions, what type of training will be needed and the length of time needed to complete the training. We offer travel training to anyone who wants more instruction on traveling independently or with a group.

We would like to remind everyone that travel training is a free service for anyone.  All of our buses are fully handicap accessible.  There are no income restrictions!  We offer curb to curb service. We have Monday through Friday city wide service in Crookston, Thief River Falls, Mahnomen and Bagley.  We also have rural routes, commuter routes, and Rural Transportation Collaborative (RTC) that can possibly accommodate your transportation needs.

Please contact us at 800-201-3432 or at transit@tvoc.org for more information on travel training. (Travel Training Brochure)
