Important Information for School Districts

The Tri-Valley team, under contract with the Minnesota Department of Education, works to identify and recruit children of highly mobile agricultural workers for the federally funded program Title I, Part C Education of Migratory Children. While program materials may reference Title I, Part C as Migrant Education Program or MEP, we avoid using the word “migrant” with families to prevent misidentification. As part of this program, we are responsible for finding eligible children, providing supplemental services, and reporting to the Office of Migrant Education. Without these efforts, many children could lose access to essential support services.

Because families move frequently, school districts are asked to include the Parent Employment Survey or these two questions during registration:

  • In the past three years, has your family lived in another school district?
  • In the past three years, has anyone in your household worked with livestock, crops, processing agricultural products, or other agriculture?

If both answers are “yes” and the family agrees, submit a Recruitment Request. A certified Tri-Valley Recruiter will conduct an eligibility interview to determine program qualification.

To learn more, sign up for a Making Connections Workshop via the Minnesota Department of Education’s Student Access and Opportunity Calendar.

Each district must appoint a Migrant Liaison to serve as the contact between schools, families, and Tri-Valley. You can find your district’s liaison on the MDE-ORG District Migrant Liaison website. To add or update the Migrant Liaison, the local district Site Verification Coordinator should follow these instructions: How to Add a Migrant Liaison to MDE-ORG Contact List.

Migrant Liaisons, counselors, MARSS Coordinators and enrollment support staff can join the virtual MSIF Office Hours monthly sessions for immediate expert guidance on the Migrant Student Information Form (MSIF) process or for any specific MEP questions they may have. No registration is required.

Tri-Valley is…
