Energy Assistance Program

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides essential financial support to low-income households, helping to reduce some of their winter heating costs. Eligibility criteria and grant amounts are based on income, household size, and annual heating costs, ensuring that those with the greatest needs receive the most support. Residents of Minnesota can apply anytime from October 1st through May 31st.

Additional services offered by the Energy Assistance Program:

  • If you’ve used all your initial grant, crisis funds may be available to help with disconnections, low fuel, and paying monthly electric and/or natural gas bills for people aged 60 or older.
  • Furnace repair or replacement services for homeowners.
  • Referrals for home Weatherization and other Human Services Programs.
