Family Partner Project Begins Servicing our Communities

As part of the Systems of Care Grant received by the Northwest Minnesota Council of Collaboratives, Tri-Valley has embarked upon a new venture – Family Partnering.

Family Partnering will provide mentoring service to families with children who have a social, emotional, or behavior concern. The Family Partner Project is for children and young adults- birth to 21 years of age. The Family Partners will serve a six county area (Kittson, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Polk, and Red Lake). Services will include: providing information and support to the family to help them access and navigate through education, mental health, juvenile justice, and social service systems.

The Family Partner makes a connection with the enrolled family within 48 hours. They provide information and support to the family and assist them in securing services to meet their needs. The Family Partner can accompany families to meetings, model appropriate skills, and speak on the family’s behalf if the individual is unable to do so. This project will help make changes in the current system for all families by ensuring that services are family and youth driven.  Staff involved in the project include Maureen Hams and Norma Campos as Lead Family Partners. They will be working with families directly, and recruiting independent contractors throughout the six county area to perform this function as well.

The most exciting aspects of the Family Partner Project?

Families will now have access to a mentor who is there to support them and help address needs from their perspective, not the many service providers they are involved with.

It opens up a new area for TVOC and connects us with service providers that we typically have not worked too closely with in the past (i.e. juvenile justice, corrections, mental health, etc.).
