Curriculum

Tri-Valley Head Start with Policy Council approval has selected the Creative Curriculum as the main foundation for our program.  Parents have an opportunity to provide input in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum by participating in Policy Council, parent meetings, home visits, parent/teacher conferences, volunteering in the classrooms and field trips.

The environment reflects the implementation of the identified curriculum.  The room is divided into interest areas.  Developmentally appropriate toys and materials are available to children on low shelves.  There are spaces in the environment for self-selection, small group, and large group activities.  The room is also structured with areas for quiet activities and active play.  The environment is evaluated by the Mentor Supervisor/Coach or Center Director after initial set up.  Teachers make changes based on this evaluation as well as observation of children's behaviors.

Lesson plans and activities are adapted based on the needs of the individual child.  The environment is accessible to all children, including children with disabilities.  Adaptive equipment and materials are obtained to meet children's needs.  Teachers work closely with local school districts to recommend referrals and follow through on individual IEP's/IFSP's/IIIP's.  Family Progress and Planning meetings allow teachers an opportunity to plan interventions with other staff and child's parents.
